Equimotional- Discover a New Way to Feel Calm, Confident, and Connected
At Random's Retreat, we’re proud to offer Equimotional—a unique, ground-breaking programme that helps people of all ages feel supported, build confidence, and better understand themselves. This is not about horse riding but about the powerful connection between humans and horses.
Our sessions are trauma-informed, client-led, and strength-based. Using specially designed frameworks, we create a safe, welcoming space where participants can grow, heal, and learn—all while working alongside our gentle and intuitive horses.
What is Equimotional?
Equimotional is about working with horses to explore emotions, develop skills, and overcome challenges. Our certified Equine Wellbeing Coaches guide participants through carefully designed activities where horses reflect emotions and behaviours, creating opportunities to learn in a unique and supportive way.
This programme isn’t therapy in the traditional sense but focuses on empowering individuals, helping them process emotions, and teaching tools for self-regulation and communication.
Who is Equimotional For?
• Children and Teens: Whether they’re struggling with confidence, communication, or managing emotions, children can thrive in our outdoor, hands-on sessions.
• Adults: Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or looking for a new way to approach life’s challenges, Equimotional offers a calming and eye-opening experience.
• Families: Strengthen bonds and build understanding together in family sessions.
How Does Equimotional Work?
A Trauma-Informed Approach
We use Dr Jess's VALIDATE model, which creates a safe space for emotional exploration:
• Validate: Acknowledge and affirm feelings.
• Acknowledge: Recognise experiences and strengths.
• Listen: Create space for open communication.
• Inquire: Gently explore emotions and behaviours.
• Demonstrate: Show empathy and understanding.
• Assist: Support participants in exploring solutions.
• Teach: Help participants build tools for long-term growth.
• Empower: Encourage individuals to recognise their own capabilities.
Strength-Based Assessment (S-EWCS)
We focus on strengths rather than diagnoses, tailoring each session to the individual’s goals and needs. Sessions are grounded in collaboration, building trust and confidence.
What Happens in a Session?
Sessions take place on the ground, not on horseback. Activities include:
• Spending quiet, reflective time with the horses.
• Leading or grooming the horses to build trust.
• Problem-solving tasks with horses to explore communication, focus, and teamwork.
Every session is designed to be calm, enjoyable, and tailored to the participant’s unique needs.
What are the Benefits of Equimotional?
• Feel Calmer: Horses naturally promote relaxation in their peaceful presence.
• Improve Confidence: Discover your strengths through interactions with the herd.
• Build Emotional Awareness: Learn tools to identify and regulate emotions.
• Enhance Communication: Develop skills to express yourself clearly.
• Connect with Nature: Spend time outdoors in a supportive, judgment-free environment.
